When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, he gave them a prayer. Not a lecture on prayer. Not the doctrine of prayer. He gave them a quotable, repeatable, portable prayer (Luke 11:1-4).
Could you use the same? It seems to me that the prayers of the Bible can be distilled into one. The result is a simple, easy-to-remember, pocket-size prayer.
Once a day for 40 days I'll post a simple prayer that brings peace and rest.
Day 11
“For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.’” ~Isaiah 46:9–10
God above, there is no one like you. You are the one, true God. The only God that I worship, the Alpha and Omega.
I need to know that you have gone before me. I see no solution for the problems I’m facing. Remind me that you are not perplexed by the struggles I face so that I may be comforted by your all-knowing power.
Be near to my family and friends who are suffering. Their pain is paralyzing, but you are greater than anything they face.
Thank you for your perfect will. May it be done in my life as I seek you.
In your name alone, amen.
