When the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, he gave them a prayer. Not a lecture on prayer. Not the doctrine of prayer. He gave them a quotable, repeatable, portable prayer (Luke 11:1-4).
Could you use the same? It seems to me that the prayers of the Bible can be distilled into one. The result is a simple, easy-to-remember, pocket-size prayer.
Once a day for 40 days I'll post a simple prayer that brings peace and rest.
Day 6
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be
called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ~Isaiah 9:6
Everlasting father, you are the mighty God.
You sent your Son and performed the final
sacrifice, and you deserve all of our praise.
I need your help today. I am a sinner and
am feeling the weight of my sin. Show me what
your Son’s birth means for me in this moment.
Give grace to those who have not accepted
your Son and do not know the freedom he gives.
Let them see that you are their loving Father.
Thank you for loving me not just yesterday
or today but always, no matter the depth of my
sin. I am grateful.
In your Son’s precious name, amen.
